What is Bachata?

Bachata is a style of dance that originated in the Dominican Republic. It is danced widely all over the world but not identically. There are styles from Italy and Spain too. Used widely in the Salsa socisls and dance scene.

The leading is done just like in most other social dances, Body and  hand and arm communication and connection is better conveyed when most of the movement is performed by the lower body (from waist down); i.e. hips and footwork.

The original dance style from the Dominican Republic in the Caribbean is a basic dance sequence in a full 8 count moving within a square. Dancers in the Western World later began developing a more simple pattern and added dance elements from other dances as well, the basic is also in a full 8 count.

What is La Rueda?

Rueda de Casino (Rueda, Casino Rueda, Salsa Rueda, The Cuban Wheel) is a particular type of Salsa done in a circle with partners a caller and loads of fun and laughter. It was developed in Havana, Cuba in the late 1950s and early 1960s by the group Guaracheros de Regla. Many moves involve the swapping of partners.

The names of the moves are mostly in Spanish, some in English (or Spanglish; e.g., "un fly").

Although the names of most calls are presently the same across the board. They can change from town-to-town or even from teacher-to-teacher.

There are many different variations of moves in Rueda de Casino. The circle will either start from "al Medio"  or from Guapea.

What is Kizomba?

Kizomba is one of the most popular genres of dance and music originating in Angola. It is a mix of traditional Angolan semba with kilapanda and merengue sung generally in Portuguese, wrongly confused with Zouk, because the pace is very similar. In Europe the word "kizomba" is used for any type of music derived from zouk, even if not of Angolan origin.

It was the Kimbundu name for a dance in Angola as early as 1894. The Kizomba dancing style is also known to be very sensual and flows with a music of a romantic flow.

Kizomba music emerged as a more modern music genre with a sensual touch mixed with African rhythm. Unlike Semba, Kizomba music is characterised by a slower and usually very romantic rhythm.
